James J. Thornhill of Dorset, *1675, † 1734, Ritter, Hofmaler unter Königin Anna und Georg I. sowie Georg II. Er dekorierte viele Paläste und öffentliche Gebäude. Wurde im Jahr 1720 Historienmaler des Königs.

Mitglied der Loge in der "Bear and Harrow Tavern" und dort 2. Aufseher. William Hogarth war der Schwiegersohn von Thornhill.
