"Es liegt eine gewisse ernsthafte Schönheit in der Ausübung der maurerischen Etikette. Das freimaurerische Leben, wie es in unseren Versammlungen gelebt wird, ist ein bewusstes Kunstwerk, in dem ein jedes Teil mit dem anderen verbunden ist, und Instikt mit einem Gespür für das Ganze; wenn ein Mann ohne Vorbereitung oder Vorausschau in diese Ordnung eintritt und nur auf seinen Instinkt vertraut, wird er mit seinem Verhalten einen unangenehmen Ton anschlagen, wie ein Misston, der durch die Melodie klimpert; aber wenn er seine Rolle geübt und die Seele des Ganzen erfasst hat, wird der Geist der Freimaurerei sein Handeln durchdringen, sich durch Ritual, Symbol, Gesetz, Philosophie, Verbundenheit und tägliches Wirken zu erkennen geben.
Sich dadurch selbst zu einem Teil eines großen und lebendigen Ganzen werden zu lassen ist eine Art der erfüllenden Freude, wie sie einem durch nichts anderes zuteil wird, ein Mitwirken an der lebendigen Schönheit, von den Betrachtern gleichermaßen gewürdigt wie von den Akteuren. Diese Fähigkeit, Freude auf die Brüder zu übertragen, wenn sie im Gespräch oder in der Zeremonie versammelt sind, ist nicht zuletzt der Lohn der Etikette."
