The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) is a masculine obedience Ancient Grand Lodge based in London, England. Although UGLE has direct jurisdiction among constituent Lodges only in England and Wales, it is in amity with most other Ancient Grand Lodges and as such is generally recognized as the world's preeminent Ancient Grand Lodge.
Although descended from the original Grand Lodge of England founded in 1717, UGLE in its present form was founded in 1813 by a merger of the Grand Lodge of England and the Antient Grand Lodge of England.
